''The Great American Cross-Country Road Race'' (UK re-release title: ''American Road Race'')〔http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-great-american-cross-country-road-race-_18763.html〕 is a sim racing video game developed and published by Activision in 1985. ==Summary==
The game puts the player in the position of a driver of a high-performance car, racing across the United States while passing through its major cities. It is known for having several obstacles that the player must watch out for, such as weather, road conditions, gas refilling, and highway patrol. It also has day/night change affecting the game play because the other cars drive faster at night. Players were given the option of choosing their routes from city to city, allowing them to, for example, take a northern route through the snowy Midwest. Every route had its own scoreboard for the top ten fastest times to complete each route.
